Buying Spinning Cycling Shoes
So you have been to a few spinning classes and despite suffering for the next few days, you have decided that spinning is a great way to keep fit (which it is by the way) and as you get more serious you might want to start to think about buying a pair of spinning shoes.
For the seasoned cyclist or triathlete spinning classes provide a good environment to keep the legs turning and your endurance levels high throughout the year (spinning classes are especially good over winter when you aren't racing) and for those looking to lose weight, keep fit or tone up spinning offers great cardiovascular exercise.
Regardless of your level, if you are attending spinning classes regularly then you will want to buy a pair of cycling shoes for spinning. Specialist spinning shoes will allow you to be clipped into the spin bike more and allow you to pedal with greater efficiency; this in turn will make the classes more intense and reduce your risk of injury.
So just what should you look for in a pair of spinning shoes?
Well firstly you should look to buy a pair of shoes that use the Shimano SPD clipless pedal system, some gyms have other brands of clipless available to use, but the vast majority will use Shimano pedals as standard.
Next you should look for a shoe that has a rigid and strong sole. By reducing foot flex you will still maintain good pedal action even when you are out of the saddle.
Finally look to buy a shoe that fits your shape of foot. You might have to try on a few different brands and styles but getting a good fit is the key to avoiding a foot injury.
Oh you may also want to invest in a good pair of cycling specific socks as these will not only wick away sweat but will apply padding to your foot in the places that you need it most through out your ride, again helping you stay injury free.
