Finding The Right Running Shoes For You

There are so many things to think about when picking the right shoes for running.

The worst thing that I have ever done when I started running was to head to the nearest shoe store and try to find a pair there; it was just a highstreet sports shop and my feet were pretty damaged after running.

The reason is that no foot is the same. As such we need differnt shoes when we are out running. To get the best pair of running shoes we need to look at what our feet need. There are so many different types of shoes out there that with a bit of work it's easy to find a pair for your feet.

Forget cushioning, control or lightweight shoes for a moment, the most important thing is that you get a shoe with a good fit. You should aim to buy a shoe that is half a size too big as this will give your foot room to move a little. The other classic mistake is to buy a shoe that is too narrow.

So here are a few tips to help you get the right shoe for you.

Do you remember when you when school shoe shopping with your mum and she would press her thumb into the end of your shoe to make sure that there was room for your toes? Well this holds true for your running shoes. Aim to have a thumbs gap at the end of your shoe.

The shoe should hold your foot in the heel without feeling like your foot is slipping forward.

If you have found the shoe that fits your foot and funds allow, pick up a couple of pairs so you can cycle these to make them last longer. I know a lot of shops offer cheap running shoes, or rather discount rates on the second pair if you buy two pairs together.
